New York and Salsa

Living in New York in the 1970’s, it was hard not to hear the radio playing music everywhere I walked. On my way to my grandmother's house, I would hear Spanish music, especially Nuyorican Salsa.

New York salsa is a blend of Latin hustle and disco mixed with Cuban influences. In the 1940’s and 1950's, Cuba was a big influence in the New York music scene.

Amazing talent came out of this movement. Tito Puente, Ray Baretto, Willie colon, Charlie and Eddie Palmieri and my own, Uncle Pete Bonet, helped influence the salsa of today.
